A Picture to represent SG culture

This photo shows many words and phrases that are spoken in Singapore and that if they are not living in Singapore, they may not understand the language. Why did I choose this photo? I think it best represent Singapore as Singapore is a multi-racial country and that all of us live here harmoniously. This words and phrases only are spoken by different races is because we communicate with one another and this shows our culture, being able to have a language of our own. We have words like 'makan' that is of Malay language and we even have phrases from hokkien dialect and these are spoken by all the different races.

Lesson 4 Reflection

Culture depicts who we are. There are some similarities like the values we hold as a nation is similar to China. Like respect, we must respect other folks. For Singapore, the Chinese also studies the same language as China (chinese) and we celebrate the common festivals. The food that we eat is also similar except the fact that Singapore has more variety due to the many races that live here. Our fashion is also similar to China but like the food, we also have other traditional costume from the other races/religion. Cultural sensitivity thus is important for us to differentiate and respect the different races who have different cultures and religions. From this lesson, we learn about some important things that we should know such as relationship so that we go to China with some basic knowledge. The most important to me is face. We all as human being would not want to embarrass ourselves and 'throw face' in the public, thus we should respect others.

E and C Week reflection

Reflection: "Experiencing another's culture may open doors that were previously closed...but the choice to walk through those door is entirely up to you." I am a Buddhist. What do the other religions believe in? What restrictions do they have? What clothes do they have to wear? What they have to do everyday? I do not know any of the answers until ENC week ended. And i would never thought of exploring the other religions' culture if not for this programme. ENC week is a week is enriching as it is filled with outdoor learning journeys where we go out to different places to explore other races or religions' culture. Then, i realised that there is so many difference between our different cultures.
